Favourite Books I Read During Quarantine
With all the extra free time quarantine has given me, I have spent a lot of that time reading. I have been finding so many new books and authors to check out. I enjoy most books I read and the ones that made this list are the ones I enjoyed the most.
1. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
Brief Summary:
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder follows the main character, Pip, as she focuses on completing a school project that is above and beyond what anyone could have imagined. She is determined to prove that a boy who was believed to have murdered his girlfriend, is innocent. She befriends this boys younger brother, Ravi, and the two of them set on this mission.
My Thoughts:
This book quickly became one of my favourites. The plot moves along very quickly and never leaves you bored. I love books where everything is pieced together in the end and I can go back and read the details that led up to the mystery. Holly Jackson wrote an excellently detailed story that was in no way predictable until you were completely finished reading. As soon as I finished this story, I picked up the sequel and was equally impressed.
2. Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum
Brief Summary:
Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum is a story about a young girl, Jamie, who is forced to move across the country with her dad when her mother dies. She is not happy with her new living arrangement, a mansion in California with her dads new wife and her son. Once Jamie starts her new school she gets an intriguing email from someone who is anonymously trying to help her deal with the up's and down's of her new school life.
My Thoughts:
This book was a very quick read for me and fairly entertaining. The mystery plot was enough to keep me interested and reading, however, I did find it a bit predicable. I guessed who the secret emailer was as soon as they were introduced. Other than this fact, I did enjoy the story and the characters. The plot was relatable and entertaining.
3. They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
Brief Summary:
They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera is an interesting story that takes place over the course of 24 hours. It follows the lives of two boys, Rufus and Mateo, who were both informed they are going to die today. It takes place in a futuristic society where an app exists that calls everyone who is going die in the next 24 hours. Mateo and Rufus's story is followed through both their perspectives.
My Thoughts:
This book was highly recommended by many people online. I decided to try it out even though I thought the title was a little strange to bother reading. However, I really enjoyed it. The whole story focuses on living like its your last day alive and it made me think a lot. These two characters were very easy to like and root for.
4. Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas

Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas is a murder mystery novel that is told by a girl named Anna, who is the prime suspect in the murder of her best friend. While a group of friends were away on vacation, Elise was murdered in her room. The foreign police quickly suspect Anna and her boyfriend. With all the flashbacks and different information being constantly presented, it was impossible to be bored while reading this.
5. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro
Brief Summary:
A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro follows the characters Jamie Watson and Charlotte Holmes, descendants of the famous characters John Watson and Sherlock Holmes. Charlotte is gifted in the way that Sherlock was and must join forced with Jamie when they are both being framed for a murder at their school.
My Thoughts:
I was already intrigued by the idea of Sherlock Holmes before I read this book and this inspired me even more to look into those novels. This story was very interesting as a modern day version. The mystery was fun and not predictable. The characters of Charlotte and Jamie were interesting to read together and I plan on continuing this series.
6. Sadie by Courtney Summers
Brief Summary:
Sadie by Courtney Summers is a story about a young girl, Sadie, who was run away looking for revenge for her sister. The chapters jump between Sadie on her quest, and a podcast that has a mission of finding Sadie and what happened to her.
My Thoughts:
This book was very interesting from start to finish. The back and forth of story-telling between Sadie and the podcast was a creative way to tell the story. It was fun seeing the different places Sadie went and how the podcaster figured all this out. Sadie's story was intriguing and heartbreaking and made it very easy to keep reading right until the end.
